Student Technology Resources

Fall 2008 will see many changes with regard to technology at MCON.  In our continuing efforts to bring the best technology to campus, we are going to be moving to a Microsoft based environment. In mid-September, we will be migrating from Novell Groupwise email to Microsoft Outlook and moving off of the Novell network.  At the beginning of the semester, all lab and student computers will no longer have the Novell client or network available.  This means that the H:/ drive will no longer be available.  This will require a couple of action items for returning students:

  1. Please delete all old email from your Groupwise inbox and folders.  The migration will move only messages in your INBOX to Outlook and wil be a manual process. This process will be much faster if we have very few items in our inboxes.  If you have archived any messages that you must keep, you will need to un-archive them into your inbox.  Cleaning up your inbox must be done by Sept. 1st .  When the migration is accomplished, you will no longer have access to Groupwise.
  2. If you have any items stored on your H:/ drive, please bring a thumb (flash) drive to the LRC, log in to the Novell network on one of the lab computers and copy everything from your H:/ drive to your thumb drive.  All of the computers on the MCON campus will NOT have access to the Novell network and thus, you will NOT be able to get to any materials you have stored on your H:/ drive.
  3. When we migrate to Outlook, you will be issued a new email address that will have @mcon.edu as the suffix.  We will notify you when that will take place and there will be a training class available for all students to learn how to use the Outlook Web client.

If you have any questions about any of these improvements, please contact Leslie Wenzel, x5960 or lrbarton@mmci.org .
