General Computer Tips
- When looking for a file open up My Computer and start your search. This allow you to view all files in each location
- When possible print back to front to save paper
- When in doubt complete things early; when you are in a hurry technology always fails
- MS office 97 will not open up new versions of MS very well. When working please save file down to MS 97 for ease of opperation.
- Vista users at home must save all files down to 97/2003 or they cannnot be opened by faculty and staff at the college.
- Programs will only open in their desired program. Errors will be produced if you try to open a file in the wrong program.
- Use your H:Drive to save information. This will allow you to open it on any computer connected to the hospital network. The h:drive is also backed up every night to prevent loss of data.
- Save information every 5 minutes to prevent loss of data.
- If your Novell log-in will expire please change your password within the given time period.
- Use the "Save As" option the first time a file is saved but use "Save" every time after that. This will help to keep the file size smaller
Groupwise
- Use the GroupWise icon on your NAL while on campus and use the web version when on your personal computer .
- Keep your emails organized by using folders and deleting unnecessary emails.
- Keep your GroupWise calendar up to date to allow others to make appointments and set meetings.
- Set up meetings in GroupWise instead of emailing back and forth. This will keep you better organized and allow others to know when they can meet with you.
Power Point Presentations
- Put proper graphics throughout presentation but not on every page
- Use some animation but not on every page as it will detract from the presentation
- Make use of appropriate backgrounds - ensure that words are contrasting colors to the background
- Words should be no smaller than 28pt font for viewers to see the screen properly
- Each slide should be an outline or main points of the presentation and not word for word what you are presenting
- When printing, print 3-6 slides to a page and in black and white (must click the option). This will allow more slides per page and a clearer print job.
General MS office
- Make use of Spell Check, Thesaurus, and Grammar options while using all MS office products
- Put repeat information in the header or footer of the document
