Nurse Educator Program

Faculty Preparation

Proposal:

Partnership between MMCI and MCON to develop nurse educators for potential College employment.

Plan:

BSN prepared RN’s with interest in teaching will have MSN (or Doctorate in “Fast Track” Program) paid for by MCON (less tuition reimbursement from MMCI) in exchange for teaching at College for four (4) years.

Requirements for Acceptance:

  1. Must be RN with BSN.
  2. Must have at least two (2) years clinical experience.
  3. Must be an employee of MMCI.
  4. Must be willing to enroll in Nursing Education MSN or Doctoral program.
  5. Must submit tuition statement from degree granting institution along with approved MMCI tuition reimbursement form

Process:

  1. The nurse educator student will shadow a faculty member employed by the College in a mentor relationship during his/her educational study period.
  2. Student will serve as a clinical preceptor for MCON.
  3. Student will be involved through professional role in areas of teaching, service, scholarship, through work with mentor and personal scholarship with College faculty in service through attendance at College meetings (at least two per month of which one will be faculty assembly.)
  4. Student must maintain a 3.0 GPA during graduate studies.
  5. Student’s progress will be evaluated by his/her mentor and the College President to determine student’s continuing status in the program.  The degree must be completed within five (5) years or the student will be dropped from the program and required to pay all accumulated costs.  Leaves may be granted for extenuating circumstances.  This decision will be made by the Nursing Educator Graduate Preparation Committee with final approval from the President.
  6. Upon completion of the degree (MSN or Doctoral if Fast Track Program), student must work for MCON or pay entire educational tuition and fees back.  If student (faculty) leaves MCON before four years of employment, there will be a pro-rated fee schedule they must pay.

Application Process:

Applicant must complete an application and submit with official transcripts from all prior educational programs (excluding high school) and certifications along with tuition forms from above.  Applicant must also demonstrate present work status, years of clinical practice and a personal statement of interest in becoming a nurse educator.
